Roll-A-Ramp Van Ramps
High-end lifts are not in everyone’s budget, but there are many convenient alternatives. Though not specifically a new product on the market, the Roll-A-Ramp may be new to you if you haven’t heard of it! This company produces ramps in many varieties, with two options for van usage—manual folding or powered.
With a 1,000 pound capacity, solid traction, and different widths to select from (26”, 30”, or 36”), both wheelchair ramps fold out from the van door to the ground. The powered option requires ~2 to 4 hours of installation time, per the company website.
Manual folding Roll-A-Ramps may not be the perfect option for everyone, but as the video demonstrates, a gentleman is able to easily fold his ramp up using only one hand!
There are a wide variety of hand controls, with suitable options for persons with unique needs. For example, drivers with severe dexterity issues in their fingers may want to use push and rock style hand controls, whereas drivers with some finger dexterity might prefer push/right angle-style or push/pull-style controls. Drivers will increased finger dexterity may like the push/rotate-style best.
The Veigel Detroit Electronic offers Push Pull, Push Right Angle and Push Rock configurations, with electronic acceleration. Designed with a slim profile, the Veigel Detroit installs close to the steering column and is covered in stylish plastic trim to enhance appearance and increase comfort in the event of knee contact. It also has a handy added safety feature requiring the use of a button switch to activate the control, thus preventing accidental engagement.
Pedal extensions, or extenders, simply bolt onto existing pedals to bridge the distance gap for drivers who need it. PedalMates are a highly adjustable extension product allowing users to rest their heel on the floor, among other configuration options. Their brake/clutch extension can adjust from 2” to 7” and heights between 3” to 4”. These devices fasten quickly and securely to most existing pedals, without leaving any trace of use afterwards should a driver wish to sell their vehicle later.
PedalMates allow for a more comfortable driving experience. They’re also safer for users who won’t have to overextend their foot, and who need to stay at least 10” away from their vehicle airbag in case it deploys in the event of an accident.
Sometimes all a person needs is a little help getting out of their vehicle. Turning seats are a simple way to address this problem, and Bruno offers a nice variety of choices. The most affordable is their Valet seat, which is a fully-powered turning seat capable of rotating, extending, or moving up or down...all with the touch of a button.
Upgrades include a built-in footrest, automatic recline (so you don’t bump your head as the seat extends beyond the vehicle door), and different fabric options and colors.
